Welcome

Dear friends of Switzerland in New Zealand and the South Pacific,
It is a true pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Embassy of Switzerland in Wellington.
Although Switzerland and New Zealand are far apart geographically, our countries are closely linked by shared values and a common outlook. Both are long-standing, stable democracies, committed to open markets, peace, human rights, and the careful stewardship of our natural environment. More than 7,000 Swiss citizens have made New Zealand their home, and many more visit each year, drawn by its remarkable landscapes and way of life. Despite the distance, there is a genuine sense of closeness between our nations.
Our bilateral relations continue to grow and evolve, and we are equally dedicated to strengthening our engagement with the countries of the South Pacific. In doing so, we place particular emphasis on sustainable development, regional cooperation, and the global challenges we share. At the same time, we are deepening our collaboration across political, economic, scientific, and cultural fields. Our Consulate in Auckland, together with our Honorary Consulates General in Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga, provides invaluable support in this work.
We are here to serve our fellow citizens. The Embassy offers consular services to Swiss nationals living in New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Niue, and American Samoa, as well as to visitors from Switzerland. If you are living in the region and have not yet registered with us, I warmly encourage you to do so. Registration is free of charge and ensures that we can assist you more effectively should the need arise.
This website is designed to be a helpful resource not only for Swiss citizens, but for anyone with an interest in Switzerland. Should you need further information or assistance, our team will be very happy to support you.
Our Embassy is privileged to be located on the Wellington waterfront, with beautiful views of the harbour, the skyline, and the ever-changing weather. For me personally, this setting is a gentle reminder of the importance of appreciating what we have, while also looking ahead with care and responsibility. It reflects well the spirit in which we approach our work – for Switzerland and for our citizens abroad.
I very much look forward to meeting many of you and send you my warmest wishes.
Viktor Vavricka
Ambassador of Switzerland
